Program Description

This course is designed for people who want to become a Registered Social Worker and be part of a profession which engages with people who are in need of support or protection. The individuals, families and communities we work with include many who experience significant levels of social disadvantage and/or discrimination. Typically you will want ‘to make a difference’ to help enhance people’s lives at a personal and structural level and the course enables you to develop the knowledge and skills needed to work with some of the most vulnerable people in society. You will also be encouraged and enabled to explore your own values and how you can practice in an anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory manner. You will learn from expert teaching staff, researchers, practitioners from the field, carers and people with experience of social work. Through lectures, group work, simulation and skills workshops you will study the theory and practice of social work, how to work with children, adults and families, as well as legal and policy frameworks.
