Established in 1990, the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) is an open research institution that is associated with the Universities Canada, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, U Sports, the International Association of Universities, and the University of the Arctic. After its collaboration with the University of British Columbia, the university introduced the Northern Medical Program. UNBC is known to be among the list of the best smallest universities in the country.
