The Medical Informatics profile focuses on the analysis, processing, and interpretation of medical data, as well as the development and evaluation of IT systems in healthcare. These include, for example, hospital information systems, electronic health records, telemedicine applications, and decision support systems. The curriculum is complemented by the fundamentals of medicine as well as insights into the healthcare system to promote interdisciplinary collaboration with medical professionals. Following an introductory module, there is a practice-oriented project. Upon successful completion, students are qualified to actively shape the digital transformation in healthcare at the interface between informatics and medicine. Profile-related subjects of the course include an introduction to healthcare systems, an introduction to medicine, an introduction to medical informatics, a medical informatics project and validation procedures. Career opportunities exist in hospital IT, but also in the development of medical software and telemedicine platforms, in data analysis in clinical studies or in the development of interfaces.
