Program Description

Our interdisciplinary BSc (Hons) Philosophy & Computer Science degree programme will develop your understanding of both disciplines, and the way the two interact. Through your philosophy courses, you’ll grapple with vital questions about the world and our place in it, examining arguments and theories from humanity’s most incisive, creative and influential thinkers. In the process, you’ll develop rigour and clarity in your own thinking and writing – skills that are highly prized by today’s employers. You’ll cover: key philosophical questions and methods, and themes and arguments from key texts a diverse range of philosophical traditions—from ancient Greek and Buddhist philosophy to 17th and 18th century European philosophy—engaging with debates that remain vital today formal logic: using the tools of propositional and predicate logic to construct and assess arguments the relationship between technology and humanity, and the ethical issues raised by emerging technologies such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence and virtual reality fundamental ethical and societal issues such as liberty and justice, autonomy and responsibility, power and oppression, and feminism and equality
