Program Description

As a Construction Engineering Technician, you will work with home builders and general contractors, bid for construction work and organize and supervise the participation of the various trades involved in a construction project. Construction management is a growing occupation regionally, and across Canada. You'll study in our new, state-of-the-art Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre. The program covers: The interpretation of construction documents, on-site building engineering and safety, quantity surveying (estimating labour, materials and equipment required for a project), building codes and construction contracts. The characteristics of various building types - with an emphasis on sustainable design principles and an understanding of energy and environmental technologies. Practical building layout surveys and quality control testing of various building materials. You will also gain extensive computer experience using general business software and specialized construction management and estimating software. The capstone project in this program is a professional portfolio that documents your learning and applied experience - a valuable tool for your job search.
