DePaul University was established by the Congregation of the Mission members, known as Vincentians, on 30th June 1898, as St. Vincent's College on the insistence of Archbishop Feehan. The classes started in the building of the St. Vincent's Church on 5th September of the same year. Initially, the college had only seven faculty members, no president, and around 70 students. On 2nd January 1899, Rev. Peter V. Byrne, C.M. was appointed as the first president. St. Vincent's College became DePaul University on 24th December 1907. The name came from St. Vincent de Paul, the founder of the Congregation of the Mission. Currently, the university holds the accreditation of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Also, various programs offered by it are accredited by different prestigious organizations. DePaul University has two campuses in the city of Chicago. The Lincoln Park campus is situated to the north of downtown Chicago. It is the main campus and houses five colleges and schools, namely College of Education, College of Science and Health, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, The Theatre School, and School of Music. It also, features a library, Brownstone's coffee shop, student center, community garden, and Ray Meyer Fitness Centre. The campus also offers excellent accommodation facilities with its 11 well-maintained residence halls. The Loop campus is located in the center of Chicago and its biggest business district. It is home to the university's five colleges and schools, including College of Law, College of Business, School of Continuing and Professional Studies, College of Computing and Digital Media and College of Communication. DePaul University offers over 130 undergraduate and more than 175 graduate programs and numerous online and continuing education courses in various fields of study like a business, communication, education, law, computing, liberal arts, science, music, theatre, social science, health, and digital media. It is home to more than 350 student organizations and clubs and many foreign students from more than 100 countries. The faculty members at the university are experienced and highly qualified. The institution builds and maintains partnerships with various organizations and companies to provide students with practical knowledge and employment opportunities. DePaul's Career Centre offers a number of services like resume writing, career counseling, interview preparation, job fairs, and networking events.
